Three Horizon Interactive Awards, WordPress vs Custom Website Design, and Best Practices for Social Media Marketing
The past month has been a busy one, starting with a guest presentation on best practices for social media marketing for Placemaking Group president, Dennis Erokan’s PR class at Saint Mary’s College.

Within 24 hours prior to the talk, we learned not only about LinkedIn killing its products and services promotion for companies, but also about Facebook throttling organic reach of posts to brand pages, so we had lots to discuss.
I think the only surprise in this news to social media managers was the extent of Facebook’s exerting its control over post views: paying for promoted posts or Facebook ads is no longer optional, but now a requirement to reach your intended audience. The good news is that this is truly affordable, even for small businesses.

I also wrote a quick review of AXIS Dance Company’s recent dance workshop, that was part of their AXIS Explored program. Their Realign The Curve Home Season performances earlier this month were such a treat to attend. Here’s what the San Francisco Chronicle had to say about it »
Horizon Interactive Awards
Finally, the Horizon Interactive Awards were announced, and I was so pleased to win a gold for my pro bono 2013 BART poster design for AXIS Dance Company’s Home Season. Working with such amazing photography by David DeSilva and collaborating with the AXIS staff each year on the promotional materials for Home Season is always super fun and rewarding.
