Notes from an Oakland designer

AXIS Dance Company’s 2011 Home Season

As a designer, it’s always a real pleasure to be asked to help an organization you really care about promote its work. I’ve served on the executive board for AXIS Dance Company for the past year, and originally learned about them a few years ago when I was the graphic designer on a Taproot Foundation pro bono team of marketing professionals charged with creating a new brochure to promote their Dance Access/Kids! program.

This is the second set of designs I’ve created since then to promote their annual Home Season performances. This year’s event should be quite exciting: AXIS will be presenting the world premiere of “Full of Words” by choreographer Marc Brew, as well as Light Shelter, by choreographer David Dorfman and The Narrowing by dancer Sebastian Grubb, at the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts on Alice Street in Oakland on October 7-9.

Look around Oakland and the Bay Area for BART posters and flyers promoting the event, and if you’re in town that week, you won’t want to miss it.
