Notes from an Oakland designer

Newest member of AXIS Dance Company’s Executive Board

I’m delighted to report that I have been invited to join the Board for AXIS Dance Company.

AXIS creates, performs, and teaches “physically integrated dance”— a contemporary dance form that evolves from the collaboration between dancers with and without disabilities.

If you haven’t had an opportunity to catch one of their electric performances, you must see them this fall in Oakland for ODD, “an evening-length performance in collaboration with choreographer Shinichi Iova-Koga/inkBoat with original composition and live performance by cellist Joan Jeanrenaud, all inspired by Icelandic artist Odd Nerdrum.” You won’t be disappointed.

Here’s a clip from their Summer Intensive, which brings together a community of people of all abilities and from many dance/movement disciplines to study, explore and create new physically integrated dance for a week.
